San Jacinto Plaza to Celebrate April 16th Grand Opening with 'Fiesta'

San Jacinto Plaza will have a grand opening celebration on Saturday, April 16, 2016. That's according to a flyer released today which most will likely hope is not an April Fool's joke.

A dedication ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. followed by a celebration from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the park in Downtown El Paso. The plaza features newly renovated "Los Lagartos" sculpture by famed artist Luis Jimenez Jr.

Many El Pasoans will be breathing a sigh of relief (and possibly disbelief) at the news of the plaza's reopening. The much maligned renovation project is more than a year behind schedule resulting in fines against the contractor by the City.

  1. Saturday April 16 should be jamming in downtown El Paso, the Reno Aces are in town,so finally after all these years.San Jacinto Plaza will reopen once again, man I wish they put back the real live alligators where they use to be.
If they can restore the Plaza Theater and bring back the electric streetcars to downtown as iconic and nostalgic as the are. Then why not bring back the alligators? Downtown El Paso is coming back to life.
